Historical Water Tank Project - The water storage tank on FM 718 was originally constructed in 1893 by the Chicago Rock Island Railroad. It filled the steam engines that crossed the nation and built America! The city purchased the tank in 1951 for $1.oo. It was taken off line in 2009. In May, 2012 the tower will be sandblasted, and then painted, allowing it to serve as a welcome marker.

Newark Town Square Project - The "Newark Town Square" refers to the city owned property at Hudson and Ram Horn Hill Rd. It consists of the three old school buildings and three acres of park grounds. The council plans to transform this property into a centrally located Recreation Center, Library, City Hall, Town Hall and Park. The first step in this project was started by moving the library into the 1,200 square foot building nearest to Ram Horn Hill Rd. Then the old maintenance building was torn down. Next, the old school cafeteria will become the Town Hall and City Hall. Lastly the Gym will be refurbished into a Recreation Center and the Park Grounds will be enhanced. Ultimately creating a Town Square. The project requires countless hours of volunteer work. If you're interested in being a part of this transformation contact City Administrator, Diane Rasor.

Ball Park - The city purchased the ball park in the 1960's. It served the youth of Newark for 40 years and was a staple to Newark families until the late 1990's. As recreation sports changed in North Texas and the expense to maintain the fields was no longer a viable option to the city, the Newark Area Youth Association disbanded and the fields grew vacant. In 2009 the council of Newark asked the voters of of Newark to decide if they supported the sell of the ball park. The voters overwhelmingly supported this motion and voted to have the land appraised and offer it for sale. The eight acres, located at Marshall and Rogers is appraised for $189,000. The council hopes to fund the Recreation Gym project with the sale of the ball park land.

Recreation Gym - In the late 1980's the city of Newark Purchased several acres along with three old school buildings from Northwest ISD. At this time the council plans to refurbish the old "Bulldog Gymnasium" into a Recreation Gym for the entire community to enjoy. This is a lofty goal and will be rather costly. The council hopes to use the funds from the sale of the Ballpark to largely fund this project. This project is on hold until the funds are available.
