Demolition permit

What you need to complete the permit process

Please apply for your Demolition permit using the information below. 


Ensure you have all of the following items as applicable to submit for a demolition permit.


    *** Pre-Demo Inspection is to be completed BEFORE permit is issued. ***

         

          Utilities disconnected, capped off and left exposed for inspection 

                         ______ Electric 

                         ______ Gas 

                         ______ Plumbing 

                         ______ Water & Wastewater, etc.) 

                        _______ Temporary fencing installation date

                        _______ Attach an aerial photo of site and label all structures that are to        be demolished. 

                       _______ A Final inspection is required after demolition and removal of all debris. 

                      _______ Asbestos survey completed. (if applicable) 

                       _______ Permit Fees paid 



You will upload all of the above documents after completing the registration on the permit portal as described to the right.

 A Pre-inspection must be completed BEFORE issuance of permit to confirm: 

           • All utilities (electrical, plumbing, gas, water, wastewater, etc.) MUST be disconnected, capped off and left exposed to be inspected by the City BEFORE the demolition may begin. 

           • Temporary fencing MUST be in place during the demolition of the project to ensure safety. 


              A final inspection is required after demolition and removal of all debris. 


Commercial/Public Buildings Senate Bill 509 requires municipalities to verify that an asbestos survey has been conducted prior to issuing permits for public or commercial buildings.

Click Residential or Commercial

Click Renovation --> Next Step

  • Fill in all fields and ensure to choose CITY OF NEWARK as the jurisdiction.  --> Next Step
  • You will be required to enter a description of the project in the box at the top. 
  • Click "Demolition" box(s) that apply.  
  • Ensure to enter the full VALUATION of the project as well as filling in each field. 

        --> Next Step ---> Create Project


* Fees will be added once a permit is received if they are not automatically calculated and will need to be paid before plans are sent to plan review.
