solar panel permits

what you need to complete the permit process

Please apply for your solar panel permit using the information below. 

  

Ensure you have all of the following items as applicable to submit for an accessory structure permit. 


   You will need to upload the following documents with your permit application:

  1. Permit Application
  2. Site plan (to scale) showing location of major components on the property 
  3. Electrical line diagram of the electrical equipment (including make, model and size of units) prepared by a Texas Licensed Professional Engineer of the PV array configuration showing: wiring system, overcurrent protection, grounding, inverter, disconnects, required signs, AC connection to building, and size and location of electrical panel 
  4. Spec sheets, listings and manufacturer’s installation instructions for each manufactured component, including (but not limited to): PV modules, inverters, combiner boxes, disconnects, and mounting systems 
  5. A roof plan, side elevations of collectors, and mounting details. 
  6. Weight of the arrays (pounds per square foot-including mounting hardware)
  7. Describe and show the roof structural elements, including a. Rafter size, span, and spacing b. Roof sheathing 
  8. Roofing type (e.g. comp shingle, shake, light-weight tile, etc.) and pitch - Details of PV panel mounting hardware attachment to the roof framing member.
  9. Site plan with placement on property/home, plans to show disconnects and connections. 
  10. Engineer’s letter stating the roof will support the panels.


You will upload all of the above documents after completing the registration on the permit portal as described to the right.

Using the portal button below, please follow the steps below for accessory structure permit.


Click Residential or Commercial 

          --> Next Step

Click Renovation --> Next Step

  • Fill in all fields and ensure to choose CITY OF NEWARK as the jurisdiction.  --> Next Step
  • You will be required to enter a description of the project in the box at the top. 
  • Check the "Solar" box
  • Ensure to enter the full VALUATION of the project as well as filling in each field. 

        --> Next Step ---> Create Project


* Fees will be added once a permit is received if they are not automatically calculated and will need to be paid before plans are sent to plan review. 


At this time, you need to submit the required documents

Click Review Project

Click First Review  

Click Upload Documents for Review.


Upload all documents listed in the required documents listed to the left.

Please note that this is a general list of what inspections these projects generally require, however some permits may require additional inspections. As always, re-inspections will require additional fees.
